THE PLATFORM

What Is Control4.

Control4 is a professionally installed automation platform that unifies lighting, audio-video, climate, security, and shades into a single system — controlled from a keypad, touchscreen, remote, or phone. It is not a retail gadget you install yourself. It is an engineered system, programmed and supported by a certified dealer.

ACT Installs is a Control4 dealer serving the coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego. We build every Control4 system around ACT Estate™ — our approach to treating a home as one integrated environment, rather than a pile of disconnected apps and remotes.

THE ACT ADVANTAGE

Why Choose Control4.

Consumer smart home products — a smart bulb here, a video doorbell there — solve one problem at a time and rarely talk to each other. Control4 was built to do the opposite: coordinate every system in the home from one platform, professionally engineered for reliability rather than novelty.

THE EVENING SCENE™

Lighting Control.

Lighting is usually the first thing an owner notices about a Control4 system, and the one used most often. Under our Evening Scene™ philosophy, lighting is programmed as a sequence of moods rather than a set of switches — a scene that dims, warms, and shifts through the evening rather than a room that is simply on or off.

INVISIBLE TECHNOLOGY™

Audio & Video.

Control4 manages distributed audio and video the way it manages lighting — as zones, not individual devices. Music can follow an owner from kitchen to patio, a single source can play in multiple rooms, and a home theater can be started with one button rather than three remotes.

Wherever possible, we build to our Invisible Technology™ standard — speakers disappear into ceilings and walls, televisions hide behind art or paneling, and even everyday conveniences like a pop-up countertop outlet in a kitchen island are integrated so the technology recedes and the room stays the focus. For dedicated home theaters, we design under our ACT Cinema™ standard and can be modeled in advance using the ACT Theater Builder™.

PEACE OF MIND

Security Integration.

Security is stronger when it is not a separate app. Control4 brings cameras, locks, sensors, and alarm systems into the same interface as lighting and climate, so the whole home can respond to a single event rather than triggering isolated alerts.

COMFORT

Climate Control.

Climate is one of the most overlooked parts of a smart home, and one of the most valuable once it is automated well. Control4 ties thermostats and zoning into the same scenes as lighting and shades, so comfort adjusts to how the home is actually used.

QUIET TECHNOLOGY™

Motorized Shades.

Shades are one of the clearest examples of what a unified system can do that standalone products cannot. Tied into Control4, shades respond to light, time, and scene rather than requiring a separate remote for every window treatment in the house.

VOICE

Voice Control.

Voice is a useful layer on top of a Control4 system, not a replacement for it. Because scenes and automation are already programmed into the system, a voice command simply triggers the same reliable logic behind a keypad button — "good night" can lock doors, dim lights, and lower shades in one instruction.

THE APP

Mobile App Features.

The Control4 app is the system's remote command center — usable at home or from anywhere else. It mirrors the same keypad logic used throughout the house, so nothing needs to be learned twice.

PROACTIVE CARE

Remote Monitoring.

A Control4 system is only as good as the support behind it. Because the system reports its own status, ACT Installs can often identify and resolve an issue before an owner ever notices it.

ACT Tip

Every ACT Estate™ system includes ongoing support, not just a one-time install. If you're weighing what level of monitoring and support makes sense for your home, schedule a consultation with a Luxury Technology Advisor.

GROWTH

System Expansion.

Few homeowners automate an entire house at once, and Control4 is built with that in mind. A system that starts with lighting in a few rooms, or audio in the primary living space, can expand year over year without discarding what came before.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions.

Can I buy Control4 myself and install it?

No. Control4 is sold exclusively through certified dealers, like ACT Installs. This is by design — it ensures the system is properly engineered, programmed, and supported over its lifetime, rather than left as a self-installed collection of parts.

Does Control4 still work if the internet goes down?

Core automation — lighting scenes, climate, and locally connected devices — runs on processors inside the home, so daily functions keep working without an internet connection. Features that rely on outside services, like some voice or remote-access features, do require connectivity.

Do I have to automate the whole house at once?

No. Most ACT Estate™ systems start with one room or one subsystem, such as lighting or a home theater, and expand over time as the household's needs and budget allow.

Can Control4 be added to an existing home, not just new construction?

Yes. While new construction under the Builder Ready Program™ makes wiring simpler, Control4 is regularly installed in existing homes using wireless devices and targeted wiring where needed.

What happens if something stops working after installation?

Because Control4 systems report their own status, ACT Installs can often diagnose issues remotely and resolve them without a site visit. Ongoing support is part of how we build every system, not an afterthought.

How do I get an actual quote for my home?

Every home is different in scope and complexity, so pricing is not one-size-fits-all. The best next step is a consultation with a Luxury Technology Advisor, or exploring options for a theater specifically through the ACT Theater Builder™.
